Conor Mcgregor (full name: Conor Anthony McGregor) is an Irish Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) fighter. He was born on July 14, 1988, in Dublin, Ireland. Conor was raised in a rough neighbourhood called Crumlin. He initially enjoyed playing football with his friends, before turning into boxing as an outlet for his aggressive nature. In his teen years, McGregor began training in the still relatively unknown sport of mixed martial arts, under the guidance of John Kavanagh. While training, Conor also dabbled as a plumber, but finally decided to quit and concentrate on his dream of becoming a professional fighter.
On March 8, 2008, Conor made his professional MMA debut, under the banner of the London-based Cage Warriors. He won by TKO. Conor went on to lose two of his six fights, before going on a winning streak that saw him win both the featherweight championship and the lightweight championship, in 2012.
In early 2013, Conor was signed by UFC President Dana White. In his debut for the professional organization, McGregor impressed the crowd with a first-round knockout win. He then held on to win the highly anticipated fight by majority decision.
After that famous win, McGregor dropped back to the more familiar lightweight class. In November 2016, Connor gave another impressive showing, with a second-round TKO of Eddie Alvarez. The win simultaneously made him the UFC’s lightweight and featherweight championships.
In early 2018, the Irish man’s relationship with the UFC became fractured due to his reluctance to fight. Dana White eventually stripped him off his featherweight and lightweight titles. Conor finally returned to the Octagon in October 2018, to challenge the new lightweight champion, Khabib Nurmagomedov. Khabib won in the fourth round. After the fight, the two sides started brawling, resulting in McGregor getting suspended for six months.
On March 26, 2019, Conor announced his retirement. He ended his MMA career with an impressive record of 21 wins and four losses.
In addition to his prowess in the MMA, McGregor is adept in several other fighting techniques, including Tae Kwon Do, Karate, and Capoeira. Conor also holds a brown belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. His main weapon, however, is a left hook that has floored many an opponent.
McGregor is known for his brash statements and foul language. In 2017, while promoting his fight with boxer Floyd Mayweather, McGregor wore a suit that upon closer infection, revealed that the pinstripes were made by lines with the phrase “F*** You.”
